2021 Oscar Choices and Predictions, Part II

On Sunday (3/27), the Academy will announce the 2021 Oscar winners. The prestige of the ceremony
(and awards more generally) has really tanked in recent years, and they have not done any favors this year either. Nonetheless, I still believe it is important to have a cinematic standard of excellence, and this is the best we got. I still love the concept and believe the awards are salvageable, however remote the possibility. Here’s what I would vote for if I was a member of the Academy:

Best Director - Belfast

Best Actor – Nicole Kidman, Being the Ricardos

Best Actress – Javier Bardem, Being the Ricardos

Best Supporting Actor – Troy Kotsur, CODA

Best Supporting Actress – Kirsten Dunst, The Power of the Dog

Best Adapted Screenplay – CODA

Best Original Screenplay – Belfast

Best Animated Feature – Encanto

Best Documentary Feature – Summer of Soul

Best Foreign Language Feature – Drive My Car

Best Cinematography – Dune

Best Costume Design – Cruella

Best Art Direction – Dune

Best Makeup – The Eyes of Tammy Faye

Best Visual Effects – Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Best Film Editing – Dune

Best Score – Encanto

Best Song – Encanto

Best Sound – Dune

Best Animated Short Film – Unsure

Best Live Action Short Film – Unsure

Best Documentary Short Subject – Unsure
